Merry Christmas

I absolutely love Christmas. This is my favorite time of year! I love spending time with my family and I feel truly blessed to have such a great one! This year I received a Canon Rebel T3! I am so excited about this! I knew what I was going to get and many people in my family pitched in money to help pay for it, making it even more special. I only used auto mode and am already amazed at the difference in quality compared to my former camera.

My husband. We still haven't found out if it is a boy or girl so I got one of each!

Surprises

That's correct. I have been pleasantly surprised to find out that I will be having a baby! This ultrasound was done at 9.5 weeks and I am now 13.5 weeks. I have been quite sick for the past two months. It seems to be getting a little bit better, though I am far from feeling like myself. I had been planning on getting better with the blog, but then with not feeling well I have not done much of anything lately. I am hoping to get this little blog going again and hopefully start having little baby things to make and share too!

My Grandma's Dress

When I was married, I used my paternal grandma's dress. She was married on May 19, 1952. That is exactly 60 years before me. I had not intended to pick the same day, that was just an accident! I loved my grandma's dress, but no one really knew where it was. One day I was in her garage and found a box that looked like it had wedding gown written on it. I climbed up on some not so sturdy makeshift ladder and opened the box to find the dress! It was in great condition, too. I had to get some alterations on it, but I was very lucky to have been able to find it and use it.

Things are going to be changing around here very soon.

The past few months have had their ups and downs and tornadoes, and I feel like this little blog of mine is going to be experiencing some changes.

I am excited to start thinking about what I am going to do now. Hopefully I will be on here a lot more than I have been as of late!

Absent

Sorry that I have been absent from here for over a month! I just really have not done a whole lot I felt like posting. But here are some things I have been up to.

A new little puppy. She's a schipperke and very cute, but also a whole bundle of work.
I presented a poster. I have been working on this project for a while now and am glad the presentation is all done with.
Blissful & Domestic
I have been using her meal plans this last week and a half and so far have made more dinners than I think I have the whole time being married!

Happy Independence Day

Happy July Fourth! Usually I just wear some kind of red, white or blue today, but this year with the influence of Sew Weekly I decided to make something! This dress was extremely simple and I did it all last night and this morning!

Pattern UsedButterick 4443
Size Made: 12
Notions: 12 inch zipper, called for a 22" one and bias tape instead of a lining
Fabric: Cotton print~$8
Time to Complete: 4 hours
Total Cost: ~$10

Notes....I did not make a lining, instead I just used bias tape to cover the seams. I think it made the top a bit looser, but it is okay. I had gotten a shorter zipper, which works, but I have to squeeze into the dress over my head! The pattern was very simple and very fast to work up with not challenges at all. I don't know if I would make it again.

Sewing (Almost) Fail

I wanted to try the Sew Weekly challenge for this last week, and had a great idea, but it did not turn out quite too good...I had wanted to make a pencil skirt with a shirt. The skirt turned out okay. I have never worked with a knit fabric before, so that was a little different. The shirt did not turn out at all. I did not consider that a non-stretchy fabric would need a lot more room to get my noggin and arms through. I thought of re-doing it, but do not really feel like it, I just want to work on something else.

My New Camera

I got a new camera earlier this week. I have been having fun tinkering around with it. I think I am going to like it. It is a big step up from my last one.

Vintage Makeup Video

My first video has been created! I had not realized just how long making and editing a video would take! But it is all done, finally!

Some notes to go along with the video.
  • I have very sensitive skin and none of this makes me break out
  • I love the Cargo Blu_Ray powder. I am not such a huge fan of the liquid foundation. Cargo products are pretty pricey, but the powder is worth it. I don't think I would get the liquid foundation again though.
  • I put a lot of mascara on so that I do not feel the need to use fake eyelashes
  • The foundation combination that I use evens out my skin tone nicely and gives a pretty porcelain doll-like look, which is what you want if you like the 40s and 50s
  • If you have any questions or comments send me a message or comment
  • I will update this list of notes if need be. If I am feeling ambitious I will add a product list on here as well as in the movie.

A New Baby

Two and a half years ago my now husband gave me a betta fish. It was about two weeks before he left and I named it Frenchy II, reason being that most people call him Frenchy. That fish passed away earlier this week and is now in betta heaven.

We decided that we were going to get another betta. My beau told me that he saw baby bettas at a local pet store, and sure enough, we found a baby betta! This little fish is about one inch long and is full of energy. It is cute to watch him eat because he has to hive very tiny pieces or else he can't eat it. I have decided not to name it until I know if it is a boy or girl. I am not sure how to tell as a baby because they all looked the same to me.

Frugal Friday 1

A few weeks ago I had my younger brother-he is four-over while my dad was out of town and my mom was at a scrapbooking crop. I wanted to do something fun for dinner, but the only suggestion he gave me was cereal. I decided I was going to override that idea and found a recipe for homemade pizza lunchables. I wish I had taken my own photos, but alas I did not, so instead I will just say how great they were. I used the recipe here and it is one I will definitely do again.

Total Cost:
Dough: I do not know really. I had everything on hand, so say maybe $2
Pizza sauce: The little jar was $2
Cheese: I got pre-shredded stuff. Each bag was $2, so $4 total
Total cost: $8

This made 18 little mini pizzas, so it was about $0.44 for each pizza. And it was so much fun to eat! I think the price is probably lower than that because I think I overestimated on the dough. I could have also shredded my own cheese to bring the cost down.

P.S. I ordered a new camera! It should be here by Tuesday. :]

Found here. Even has a tutorial to make it!

I love this quote from J.R.R. Tolkein. It is probably one of my top favorites. Enjoy!

Scalloped Skirt

I finished a skirt! I was not sure how much fabric to get, so I went on the higher side and got two yards. I only needed one though. The tutorial was really easy to follow. My only change would have been to make it longer. My beau said it looks like a tennis skirt. Also, the skirt is an odd color, but I just found a white shirt at a thrift store today that I think will match nicely. I think it is a half-circle skirt and I like it a bit more than a full-circle skirt for me, and it uses less fabric.{I know it is not quite Sunday, but in other time zones

Pattern: Vivat Veritas:Scallop Waist Skirt
Size Made: 12 (But added about two inches to the length)
Cost: I paid $12 for two yards, but only used about one-so $6 for the fabric, $1 for the thread (on sale!), $1 for the zipper (on sale too!), $2 for some white bias tape, but just used a little. Total cost=$9

It was a windy day, but I was determined to get pictures! Me channeling Marilyn Monroe! Haha!

I am just so photogenic....
