Sewing 2011

I have realized that I accomplished a lot less this past year than I had thought! I could only find six sewing projects that I completed in the last year. I am hoping to get a bit more than that done this year.

Skirt 1: This was made from a black and white suiting material-I think. I used the full circle skirt pattern from thunderlily.com, though I believe it was called the Marylin skirt and I cannot seem to find the pattern on there now. The waistband is rather funky on it, but I usually just hide that with a belt.

Skirt 2: I used a brown gabardine for this one. I used the same circle skirt pattern for this one. I still do not have a button on the waistband yet. Oh well.

Dress 1: This is my first dress! I used a cotton fabric.

Dress 2: I love this one! I fell in love with the Colette patterns because of this dress. (It is the Crepe dress) I just forgot to leave an opening for the waistband. Oops!

Dress 3: I followed the tutorial on Casey's Elegant Musings. Add some heels and this little number is quite feminine and springy.

Dress 4: I wore this to the CAKE concert I went to. I really like this one, too. I added the sleeves to it and put the lace on the collar.

And here's to sewing more in 2012!

January

I cannot believe the lovely weather we have been having lately. More than one day last week I only needed a light sweater! The skirt I am wearing here is the very fist garment I sewed. I was participating in the Make it With Wool competition and I knit a top for it and decided to sew this skirt. It was a free pattern from the Burda Style website. Not a good idea for a first project. It has been sitting in my closet for about the past two years, then on Thanksgiving I decided to bring it out again and I actually like it quite a bit!

California

The day after Christmas my beau and I went to California to visit a wonderful family he met in Virginia-they were visiting family in California. It was a wonderful vacation! The family was truly amazing and I had a great time getting to know them! Like many vacations it ended all too soon.

My beau and I in Oceanside, CA
Can't you tell they are just awesome!

Some Big News!

So....I have some pretty exciting news! I am engaged! That's right, ten days after being home he proposed!

Here's the proposal story:

We went out on Monday, December 19th to cut down a Christmas tree. Because it is more manly my beau brought an axe. He was choppin' away at the tree and then asked if I wanted a turn. I began attempting not to cut my leg off and he was taking pictures of me. Then something fell on my head so I looked down and there was a pickle ornament-which had fallen out of the tree. Then I looked at it and there was a ring on it! And he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said "yes"!

I am very excited to marry my best friend and the most amazing man I could ever hope for!

He's Home

I have not actually fallen off the face of the Earth, my beau is just home. Right in time for finals! :]

I have mentioned before on here that my beau was serving a full-time mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Virginia. Well, after 737 days he is now home!

Awkward. :]

"A date which will live in infamy"

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Unfortunately I cannot get the video to upload, but here's the link.

But, this is another one that I really like.

I am so thankful for those who have served, both past and present.

Final Blues

The final blues have begun to set in. I start finals on the 12 and they run through the 21. I have a presentation this week and an Organic Chemistry test. Ugh. I did get some fabric over the Black Friday Weekend for this dress. The one on the right side. I am hoping for it to be my Christmas dress and to make a matching tie for my beau! The only thing is, it has a lining! Eek! (I believe I mentioned that before....) BUT, I think I am going to go to an open sewing class to work on it so they can help me! Merry December!

Here is my dress form and me! I need to add a little bustage to it...It is almost flat chested, and I am most definitely not!
